Our Mandate & Framework

The Black Creek Youth Initiative’s mandate is to empowering young people through an art-based and human rights framework. It aims to provide a safe and positive environment where youth can express themselves and be heard, fostering leadership and understanding of human rights. BCYI provide a positive and safe space for children and youth to express themselves and have their voices heard. The organization is committed to promoting youth leadership and skill development, fostering a greater understanding of human rights and responsibilities among children and youth. Additionally, the mandate includes providing marginalized children, youth and families with the necessary tools to navigate systemic barriers. BCYI aims to improve the general wellness of children and youth, creating an environment that supports their holistic development and well-being.

Through these objectives, the Black Creek Youth Initiative strives to make a positive impact on the lives of young individuals by empowering them, advocating for their rights, and addressing systemic challenges that may hinder their growth and success.

The Black Creek Youth Initiative’s mandate is to actively contribute to the realization of its vision: a world in which all young people have the opportunity to achieve their full potentials. The organization is driven by a mission to engage young people with the tools and resources needed to address systemic barriers, Social Determinants of Health, and to build leadership skills through community building.

Aligned with its mission, the Black Creek Youth Initiative upholds a set of core values:

Love, Respect, Kindness, and Support for One Another: Fostering an environment that values interpersonal relationships and mutual support.

Creating Inclusive, Safe, and Brave Spaces for Young People to Flourish: Establishing environments that embrace diversity, ensure safety, and encourage the courage needed for personal growth.

Youth-Led/Youth Decided, Youth-Centered: Empowering young individuals to take the lead in decision-making processes and ensuring that programs and initiatives are centered around the needs and aspirations of youth.

Culturally Responsive: Acknowledging and respecting diverse cultural backgrounds, and integrating cultural responsiveness into the fabric of the organization’s activities.

Community Focused: Placing a strong emphasis on community engagement and development, with a commitment to addressing broader social issues affecting young people.

The Black Creek Youth Initiative’s mandate is to create a world where all young people can reach their full potentials by actively engaging them in addressing systemic barriers, fostering leadership skills, and upholding values of love, respect, kindness, inclusivity, youth empowerment, cultural responsiveness, and community focus.
